USSOCOM - SBIR Intake Program
A web based environment for the USSOCOM SBIR team to showcase new technology as well as open the gates for incoming businesses. Originally built on a very unstable environment, I decided to move this site to a WordPress environment with a custom theme.
Impactful Experience
Immediately grabbing the attention of users with a bold, full-width hero banner, conveying strength and purpose, anchoring the visual hierarchy and drawing users into the content. Strategic use of a limited color palette-primarily black, gold, and white-creates strong contrast that reinforces the brand identity and makes key interface elements and text easy to scan and read, consistent with good web design principles.
3 Step Process
The clear navigation bar at the top and prominent icons with concise labels below the hero section guide the user through primary actions without overwhelming them, improving usability and reducing cognitive load.
Finally, the balance of visuals and text, plus purposeful calls-to-action, supports both aesthetic appeal and functional clarity, which together enhance user engagement and perceived professionalism.
Clear Guidance
a strong visual hierarchy by using bold, contrasting colors and large, circular phase icons that immediately draw the viewer’s eye to the SBIR process flow, helping users quickly understand the sequence of steps without reading dense text.
Strategic use of high-contrast black and yellow not only reinforces the brand’s identity but also makes key elements like headings and icons stand out clearly, enhancing readability and focus. The clean layout with ample whitespace around each phase circle reduces cognitive load, making the complex process easier to digest at a glance, which improves usability.

The mobile presence emphasizes clarity and focus by stacking content vertically with generous spacing and thumb-friendly touch targets, making it easy for users to scan and interact on a small screen without frustration.
